Shivshahir Babasaheb #Purandare held a small gathering of enthusiasts spell bound as he spoke on the subject so close to his heart- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Delhi, he said, will host two events: first an exhibition of paintings depicting the life and times of #Shivaji and the next the mega show 'Maha Natya' #Jaanta Raja.

The paintings exhibition will be held from October 6 to 16 in the Art Galleries of Delhi's prestigious Indira Gandhi National Centre of Arts (IGNCA). The paintings- 120 plus- have been drawn for the past over 15 years by Mumbai artists and give a glimpse of Shivaji as an able administrator, an able General, a visionary, a diplomat, a strategist, an architect. These aspects of Shivaji's persona are little known to people, said the 95-year old historian who has devoted his life on researching the Marathas and the Peshwa period.

The exhibition, first helId in the prestigious Jehangir Art Gallery of Mumbai last year, was seen by over one lakh people.

Earlier in the day Babasaheb met #Prime Minister #Narendra Modi and handed over letter reqesting him to inaugurate the exhibition as also the Jaanta Raja shows.

Jaanta Raja is likely to be staged in Delhi in February next year.
