Children presenting skits based on incidents in the life and work of Lokanya Tilak, speeches by guests eulogizing the contribution by Tilak to the freedom movement, garlands being put on his portrait… this could be the scene in many a school in Maharashtra. Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut, however, was happily surprised to see non-Marathi-speaking children presenting cultural programme in Hindi-Marathi at Delhi’s Chougule School.

Overcast sky did not dampen the enthusiasm of the school children and the staff to go ahead with the progrmme. Weather gods obliged and the programme proceeded without any problem.

The performance by the children drew repeated applause from the audience that had collected in the school.

Shri Prafulla Pathak, Hon. President of the Maratha Mitra Mandal that runs the school said that the Mitra Mandal which is over 70 years old has been imparting education to not only Marathi children but also to non-Marathi children who are taught Marathi and Maharashtrian culture.

M.P Sanjay Raut in his speech complimented the children for the excellent show.
